Building an interactive report for the Environmental Defense Fund

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the environment. They use science-based solutions and partnerships to address critical environmental issues like climate change, pollution, and resource depletion. Their work aims to create a healthier planet for all.

In collaboration with Ash Co we turned an annual emissions report into a dynamic and interactive experience.

Methodology

The final deliverable was built using a MySQL database, PHP, HTML / CSS, and pure JavaScript to power the interactions. On the landing page, the individual bars are slightly different sizes to dynamically correlate to the weight of each organization's impact.

Within each breakdown, an SVG is displayed with each bubble correlating to a company in the sidebar list — with its size scaled to represent the relative impact of each organization.
